This was my first experience with FreshSTART and it was awesome! I was a team leader and had a great group that worked hard and as a team. It was so cool to be a part of helping these freshmen get into community service here and see them interact with people they have never met. Everyone did their part to make it a successful day! Definitely want to be a part of this again!
As a team leader, it was amazing to see how everyone came together and sacrificed their first Saturday (and the Syracuse game!) to come out and serve their Penn State community.  Even after only a week at Penn State, all hte volunteers have proved that they are true Penn Staters at heart.

OPP RULES

It was an awesome experience to see all different aspects of the Penn State Community and how they can positively influence the surrounding Centre County area. The people at the recycling center truly take pride in all that they do, and it was an honor to be able to assist them in all they do for the PSU community.
Today was simple awesome. Hard work, but awesome. It sure beats partying and waking up with a hangover on a Saturday morning!
Today I cleaned washed the mats that are used for THON. I learned how important it was for these mats to get clean so the children didnt get sick. I had a lot of fun.

Fresh Start

Fresh star was a great way to make new friends. Being in a small group like that really helped me meet a lot of people!

volunteering

I cleaned the THON mats and had a great time.  I never knew how much work goes into THON and now I have a better appreciation for it.  I really enjoyed talking to my team leaders, Anna and Christine.  They made me want to join more volunteer groups.

THON Mats

For our service we cleaned mats for THON. I always have enjoyed volunteering for a good cause so doing this for THON made it extra special and well worth it. I'm glad I chose to be involved in Fresh Start and I look forward to doing it again next year.

It has been quite a successful day here in University Park.  I went to a recycling plant and cleaned the THON cans.  We had an assembly line which included tables with people peeling labels off, washing stations, rinsing stations, and drying stations.  Overall the process went quick because there were a lot of us working.  YAYYYYYYY. I also love cheese and long walks on the beach.

Sincerely,
Roberto
Volunteering today for Fresh Start was something speciasl.

Today was awesome, everyone was willing to have fun and engage in something rewarding.  PS. lots of ladies!!

For my service site we went to the red cross. We walked around to student apartments and put fire safety flyers on their doors. I feel like I made an impact by spreading the word about fire safety to my fellow Penn State students.

Park Ave Clean Up

For our service site, we picked up trash on park avenue. We found cigarettes, mouth guards, gum wrappers, and other paper and string. We feel inspired to keep Penn State clean and to do more service in the future. Our group was very small but we got to know each other well along the way. Our team leader was awesome and told us lots of good stories while we walked. We took lots of pictures with our orange vests and gloves. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get to use the trash pickers.

SUNSET PARK!!!!!!

I'm Gena Aiello and I'm in DUS! Sunset park was really cute and awesome to work on. Our group helped re-paint the bathrooms. Our group was very lively and we had a lot of fun together. I made a bunch of new friends and I hope I get to see them around more! My favorite part of today was seeing how a collective effort can help change a rundown building look brand new - at least from the outside. It was so cool to see how our effort really made a big difference. After today I'm definitely considering getting involved in other service projects!

Painting at the Sunset

Yo, it's Zach Firestine. I'm an undecided freshman that just took part in the coolest thing ever, FRESH START! My group went to the Sunset Park to repaint a bathroom, which was a lot of fun! It was great to help out the local maintenance guys that have to take care of things around all of the local parts. This service day was a great opportunity to make friends and long lasting memories. I love painting so this volunteer work was a great fit for me, and I'm extremely excited to continue my service here at PSU! We also got free water bottles and shirts, which was pretty sweet too.

Fresh START 2013!

Hi, my name is Steph Crane and I painted a recreational building at Sunset Park! My leaders, named Jenn and Katrina were awesome and so was my group! We had so much fun. I learned that community service can be a blast. I'd love to get involved with more community service at Penn State because I had a wonderful time today and made a bunch of new friends! It was also great because we actually made an impact by making the building look better than it did when we arrived at Sunset Park. My favorite part of today was meeting several new friends that I will hopefully stay friends with for a long time.

SUNSET PARK

For Fresh Start, we went and painted at Sunset Park. It felt great to meet new people and make new friends. I felt that it helped me gain a good head start on service at Penn State. I hope that I can do even more service in the future.

GO SUNSET PARK!
House of Care group

We went to a home for the elderly. It was a very small house, and we cleaned pretty much all of it. It felt really good to help out others who need it!
Lots of fun cleaning the House of Care! Felt good helping out!
